“The United States unexpectedly condemned Russia's war against Ukraine through a joint communiqué following the G7 finance ministers’ meeting in Banff, Canada.”
Good news.
That’s it.
Exactly the kind of thing I predicted here 2-3 days ago.
Trump embarrassed himself so badly, became such a laughingstock after Putin humiliated him — politically raped him, to be blunt, during their phone conversation — that it was obvious something would be cooked up to throw dust in the eyes of the democratic world and cover up the unprecedented, spectacular disgrace of the American president.
And voilà — here it is.
A pleasant headline…
…until the next Trumpian madness comes rolling in.
Trump says one thing in the morning (depending on which foot he got out of bed with);
something entirely different at noon, contradicting the morning thing;
and something third and totally contradictory again by evening —
incompatible with both what he said at noon and in the morning.
Trump’s behavior is cretinoid.
Let’s not delude ourselves. Don’t look for logic. There isn’t any.
As for the G7 meeting — it was held in Banff, Canada.
And since I’ve started writing, let me say this:
In 1992, in Banff, I became the first Bulgarian to enter NATO. :)
The first Bulgarian in NATO wasn’t my university mate Solomon Passy — it was me. :)
Back then, I was the head of the Bulgarian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and it was in my person — yes, me personally — that Bulgaria was officially and legally welcomed into that NATO structure.
Thunderous applause accompanied the handshakes and the announcement:
“Welcome, Bulgaria, to NATO!”
How it all happened is a fascinating story —
I stood alone, facing a whole room of parliamentarians from 16 member countries.
They grilled me for two hours on every possible topic in every possible language.
I responded without any documents, and without advice from our Foreign Ministry or Ministry of Defense, speaking in my then-English with a Pernik accent, dripping with sweat by the end…
…but I got a standing ovation.
As for why Petre Roman — who answered in the language he was asked in — didn’t get any ovations, and where the BSP member of our delegation was hiding while I was being roasted slowly over a spit…
Well, that’s a curious story for another time.
