FOR EUROPE TO HAVE A FUTURE

As I wrote immediately after the shameful phone call between the Bunker-Man and the Red-Haired Black Swan, Putin, acting like a typical thug from Bandit Petersburg, couldn’t help himself — he didn’t just get everything he wanted from Trump, he also psychologically raped him, mentally kicked him, humiliated, crushed, and obliterated him in a grotesque, immoral mental “beating.”
And yet, Putin could’ve continued playing Trump like a fool, leading him by the nose, dragging him into absurd situations and presenting him as a politician trying to maneuver, seeking compromise between irreconcilable sides, trying to achieve the maximum from the minimal or the minimal from the maximum.
But Putin was shaped as a brazen street hooligan in the backyards of Leningrad, and he lives by the creed that the weak should be beaten half to death and dunked in the toilet (I’m practically quoting him — forgive my uncharacteristic language).
Drunk on this moment of triumph, Putin felt untouchable and moved into a new phase of the war — as I quoted in my previous post from my almost-brother of 50 years in Kharkiv — a phase of extermination of Ukrainians, to break them completely.
And again, I say what I said days ago:
If it weren’t for the inhuman suffering of the Ukrainian people,
if bombs weren’t falling on my friends in Ukraine,
if their nights weren’t haunted by terror,
I might have written that there’s one bitter silver lining for the brave, beautiful, tortured Ukrainian people in this latest wave of Putin’s savagery:
Now the Americans are left with no room for maneuvering, for hesitation, for moral ambivalence, for pretending Ukraine and Russia deserve to be weighed on the same scale.
Putin is kicking the stool out from under his own gallows.
He’s so far detached from reality, he can’t even begin to imagine what awaits him.
For the first time in my life, I wish that a man (is he even a man?) ends up in Hell — and the sooner, the better.
And as I grieve for my Ukrainian brothers and sisters, for their sons and daughters, for their parents, and for the utterly innocent and horrified children — I start to believe that Fate will take matters into its own hands.
But until Fate acts —
it’s high time for Europe’s leaders to take hold of themselves,
and take hold of Europe’s Present —
so that it may have a Future.
